Dear Hiring Manager:
The purpose of this letter is to inform you of my desire to be a Library Media Specialist. I believe that I am uniquely qualified for the position considering my education and experience.
The past two summers, I had the privilege of being the Library Media Specialist and Makerspace/Coding Instructor for the Springfield R12 Explore! Program. I enjoyed teaching kindergarten through fifth grade students from all over Southwest Missouri and even some students here visiting from out of state for the summer.
I graduated from the Library Information Science masters program in December 2017, and I have completed teaching certification through an alternative pathways program with the University of Central Missouri. During my graduate program, I gained valuable experience completing 150 practicum hours at the elementary, middle school, and high school levels. I completed 4 weeks of student teaching at Delaware Elementary as a Library Media Specialist and another 12 weeks at Pershing Middle School.
I am currently employed in the Springfield R-12 district as Pershing K-8’s library clerical for the third year. My duties as clerical are to provide support to the Library Media Specialist with specific functions related to the instructional program, collection, purchasing, processing, circulation, maintenance and inventory of library materials. My duties include assisting students and staff to identify print and digital resource materials for use in classroom and/or class assignments as well as provide IGNiTE support for students and staff including: troubleshooting devices, completing IT work orders, circulating spare devices, and maintaining accurate records to communicate to the librarians and IT department.
I have been blessed to work for some wonderful Library Media Specialists who have helped empower me and prepare me for this next step. If given the opportunity to be the Library Media Specialist, I will serve that awesome responsibility with the integrity, respect, and sincerity that it requires.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Respectfully Submitted,
Laura M. Quick
